Milford H. Godsey, age 93, of Waterville, passed away on Sunday,
February 5, 2012 at the Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids.
Milford
was born September 14, 1918 in rural Whiting, Jackson County, Kansas, to Patton
W. and Lottie (Cullens) Godsey. After
graduating from Netawaka High School in 1937 he went to work for the Missouri
Pacific Railroad learning telegraphy. When
WWII started he was drafted into the US Army where he was trained as a Radio
Operator/Telegrapher. After being
shipped to England he landed at Oran in North Africa then went on to Algiers and
Tunis. Later he served in the
Sicilian Campaign and in the Italian Campaign, all the way to the Swiss border
and the end of the war.
When WWII
ended he returned to the Missouri Pacific Railroad where he worked as a Station
Agent and Telegrapher. While working
at Portis he met his future wife Corky Funk.
They were married August 15, 1948 at the Brethren Parsonage in Portis.
In 1951 they moved to Waterville were they remained through retirement.
Milford
was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church, Springer Post 332 of the
American Legion in Waterville, he was a charter member of VFW Post 6242 in
Beloit, and a member of Sutton Lodge #85 of the AF&AM in Waterville.
Survivors
include his wife Corky, three children; Bruce F. and wife Janice Godsey of
Lenexa, Linda D. and husband Michael Campbell of The Woodlands, Texas, Julie A.
and husband Ron Campbell of Johnson, by eight grandchildren and a sister,
Winifred Majors of Houston, Texas.
Milford
was preceded in death by two brothers; Harvey and Wayne and a sister, Vera
Jones.
Funeral
services are planned for 11:00 am, Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Waterville
United Methodist Church. Burial will
be at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville. Viewing
will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.
