PHYLLIS CARPENTER

 

Phyllis Carpenter, age 79, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan, Kansas. 

 

She was born June 28, 1930 at Geneva, New York, the daughter of Romain and Gertrude (Wood) Richardson.  She was married to Norman Carpenter on July 23, 1949 at Elmira Heights, New York.  He survives of the home in Waterville.  She was very active in the Baptist Church serving as organist, vocalist at church and funerals and had served several years as choir director.  She also accompanied her husband on a year long Pocket Testament Mission to Africa. 

 

Survivors besides her husband include three sons, Norman Dean Carpenter of Waterville, Dale Allen Carpenter of  Bath, New York, and Daniel Paul Carpenter of Treynor, Iowa, two daughters, Deborah Ann Huls of Castle Rock, Colorado and Dawn Allegra Brown of Courtland, Kansas. Four sisters, Barbara Hilborn of Addison, New York, Janet Jacobsen and Patricia Edwards both of North Carolina and Esther Mayes of Jacksonville, Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Beverly Hudson.

 

Funeral Services were held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2 P.M. at Victory Baptist Church in Marysville, Kansas with Reverend Barry Dunmire officiating.  The congregation sang “He Lives” and “At Calvary” accompanied by Betty Raub at the piano.  Casketbearers were Dan Carpenter, Mike Gee, Dale Hendersen, Alex Brown, Kelsey Brown and Steve Brown.  Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Waterville, Kansas.  Memorial contributions to Victory Baptist Church may be sent in care of Terry-Christie, P.O. Box 61, Waterville, Ks. 66548, who is in charge of arrangements.
