Norma
J. Carlson,
age 82, of Valley Center, passed away on Monday, May 10,
2010 at Cambridge Place Nursing Home in Marysville.
Norma
was born August 17, 1927, near Bigelow, Kansas, the
daughter of James A. and Jean E. (Foster) Smith.
She was a graduate of Frankfort High School and
attended secretarial college in Kansas City.
On January 29, 1950 at the Blue Rapids United
Methodist Church she married Duane Carlson.
Norma
was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Valley Center. She
sang in the church choir for over forty years and was
active in Home Builders at the church.
She was also a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many
years.
Norma
worked as a secretary at the Kansas City Quartermaster
Depot, Kansas City, Mo.; was a bookkeeper at Fenwick
Oil, Marysville; worked at the Air Force Supply Depot in
Roswell, N.M.; was a secretary for Earl Stauffer
Accounting, Valley Center; and worked for the Ireland
and Ireland CPA firm of Valley Center for forty years.
She
enjoyed cats, birds, flowers, especially pansies and
sunflowers, and taking care of her family.
Survivors
include her husband, Duane Carlson of Valley Center, a
son Randy Carlson and wife Jody of Broken Arrow,
Oklahoma, a daughter Sally Gray and husband Ron of Blue
Rapids and four grandchildren.
A
graveside funeral service is planned for 10:30 am,
Friday, May 14, 2010 at Greenwood Cemetery, South of
Blue Rapids with Reverend Marilyn Sweet officiating.
Music is to include a cappella arrangements of
“A Closer Walk With Thee” and “In The Garden”
sung by Julie Popejoy.
Honorary Bearers are Randy Carlson, Adam Carlson,
Ron Carlson, Ron Gray and Sam Gray.
A, viewing will begin at noon Thursday with a
visitation from 5 until 7 pm at Terry-Christie Funeral
Home in Blue Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Meadowlark Hospice or the First United Methodist Church in Valley Center. Memorials may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
